Inflation Shows Lowering Trend in Cuba

Havana, April 7 (ACN) Cuban Economy and Planning Minister Joaquin Alonso said that inflation levels over the past two months of 2025 are below same period of 2024.

The Minister released the information as part of a recent report to the Cuban Council of Ministers on the performance of Cuban economy. Inflation curve indicators keep decreasing with respect to same date last year, though prices increased in February by two percent, he noted.

The Cuban government official referred to the export of goods, which do not yet reach the planned performance, except for the exports of cigars, lobster, rum and biopharmaceuticals, according to a dispatch by PL news agency.

The export of medical services is meeting the plan and growing; but it is not the case of tourism or telecommunications, he noted.

Over 300 thousand vulnerable citizens are being protected in Cuba—the Minister pointed out—and 63 thousand 765 mothers of three or more children also receive assistance, including more than one thousand in communities under transformation.

As to the entrepreneurial sector, the Minister said that gains grow, but 316 state companies report losses, meaning 69 less than in similar period of 2024.

The Minister’s report stressed that the country’s agenda prioritizes strategies, programs and actions aimed at solving the difficult economic scenario facing the nation as a result of the strengthening of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade.

The Council of Ministers Session—attended by President Miguel Diaz-Canel—also addressed other economic issues, like the implementation of the State Budget. The Session approved a Customs Law Bill to be submitted to the Council of State.
