HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 18 (ACN) At the annual review meeting of the Ministry of Foreign Trade, attended by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz assured that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (MINCEX) plays a key part in the government program to revive the economy and eliminate distortions.
Marrero urged MINCEX to strengthen its leading role and consultancy functions regarding foreign trade and international cooperation, given the country’s urgent need to collect hard currency and prevent the importation of goods and services that Cuba can otherwise produce.
“Everyone engaged in these activities has to abide by MINCEX rules”, the Prime Minister stressed.
He also urged the non-state economic actors to import raw materials, fertilizers, animal feed and other products that contribute to the reanimation of the national economy.
Executives and specialists mentioned among the priorities for 2025 an action plan to speed up and simplify the formalities to approve business deals with foreign investors and to streamline the arrival and distribution of donations while keeping in mind that the success of the government programs also requires an updated Foreign Investment Policy and steps to make the most of the knowledge sector as a source of income.
