HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 27 (ACN) In a post on X, the organization The People's Forum reported that its fundraising campaign, launched jointly with Project Hatuey and the Party for Socialism and Liberation in Washington, has collected USD 115,000 as the first 30 tons of food purchased in the United States by the Let Cuba Live campaign arrived in the island.
“We are raising our target to 150,000 dollars to send more aid to those facing blackouts, shortages and hurricane-caused damages,” their message stressed. “The original goal was to collect 100,000 to send food and power generators to Cuba in this context of energy emergency”.
The announcement recalled that natural disasters and the U.S. government's deliberate attempt to stifle the Cuban economy and hinder its ability to trade have caused a grave situation in Cuba, so “we must act now”. (…) [The resilient Cuban people] have suffered more than 65 years of a cruel U.S. blockade, but this moment is unique, as the threefold effects of a blockade, a hurricane and a blackout makes it especially urgent.”
On Tuesday, The People's Forum published a letter in The New York Times demanding U.S. President Joe Biden to use his last 90 days in office to end the brutal Cuba policy of his predecessor, Donald Trump.
In more than six decades, the blockade has cost Cuba more than USD 164 billion dollars in damages, with five billion in the last year alone (March 2023 to February 2024), the letter pointed out, remarking that every year the United States is sidelined at the UN General Assembly by a world opposed to this unilateral and hostile policy.
