Havana, Oct 17 (ACN) The Central de Trabajadores de Argentina-Autónoma (CTA-A) union confederation demanded the end of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than six decades now.
As part of an awareness campaign against the US policy, the CTA-A reiterated in a statement its support for the Caribbean island and noted that international solidarity is crucial to denounce, face, and end the unilateral and illegal US policy.
On November 2, 2023, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly condemned the American blockade for the 31st consecutive year, with 187 votes in favor of the Cuban resolution demanding the end of the hostile US policy, the statement reads.
Only the United States and Israel voted against the Cuban resolution demanding the end of the blockade, and Ukraine abstained. In 2024, this global demand will once again reach the assembly, urging the question: Why does this measure, which has been condemned by the majority of the world and causes so much harm, remain in place?
The CTA-A also explained that the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, recently presented a report on the negative impact of the US policy, which caused Cuba losses amounting to over 5 billion dollars only from March 1, 2023, to February 29, 2024.
A breakdown of that figure would stand for more than $421 million dollars per month, or $13.8 million daily, said the foreign minister, adding that in six decades, those damages amounted to over 1.4 trillion dollars.
The figures are overwhelming and reveal that the United States commits an act of genocide, aiming to fragment Cuban society and fuel political opposition in line with its hegemonic interests, the statement points out.
