Havana hosts international convention on Cooperativism

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 17 (ACN) The 15th International Convention on Cooperativism (COOPERAT 2024) will be opened today at the Havana Convention Center, where six workshops and a forum with parallel programs will be held until Thursday.

The Center for Management, Local Development, Tourism and Cooperativism Studies (CE-GESTA), attached to the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Pinar del Rio “Hermanos Saiz Montes de Oca”, convened this event.

It is part of the road map towards the 6th World Forum on Local Economic Development, scheduled for April 1 to 4, 2025, in Seville, Spain.

The convention is sponsored by the Ministries of Agriculture and Tourism, the National Associations of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC) and Small Farmers (ANAP by its Spanish acronym), the National Institute of Economic Research, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the United Nations Development Program.

Other participants in the organization of the meeting include the Integrated Platform for Integral Territorial Development, the Andalusian Municipalities Fund for International Solidarity, the Andalusian School of Social Economy Foundation and the Latin American Cooperativism Network.

The objectives of the event are to promote the formation of networks and South-South cooperation and of people and institutions linked to the cooperative sector and the social economy in general, and to exchange theoretical concepts, methodological tools and experiences of good practices associated with the topics covered by the event.

In its 7th edition, the International Workshop on Social and Solidarity Economy will be held for the fourth time, the Cooperative Law Workshop for the fourth time, and for the second time the Cooperative Management, Cooperativism and Local Development and Cooperativism and Sustainable Tourism Workshops will be held for the second time.

COOPERAT 2024 also includes the 1st International Workshop on Entrepreneurial Farms and the International Forum on Business, Foreign Investment and Cooperation at that level in the cooperative sector.
