Cuba attended FAO meeting in Brazil

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 29 (ACN) The FAO Cuba Office reported that Cuba participated in the 9th Meeting of the Regional Network of Public Food Supply and Marketing Systems of Latin America and the Caribbean (SPAA), held from 21 to 23 last in Brasilia, Brazil.

Betsy Díaz Velázquez, Minister of Domestic Trade, and María Isabel Leyva Moya, Marketing Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, presented Cuba’s action plan to provide food and care to vulnerable people and cope with emergency situations.

Organized with the support of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency, the meeting promoted a dialogue to define strategies and projects among public food supply and marketing entities of the member countries, as well as the use of IT systems to monitor production, prevent food shortages and tackle overpricing.

SPAA responds to the implementation of the plan for Food and Nutrition Security and the Eradication of Hunger of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and to the FAO Strategic Program to establish more inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems.

The network is made up of Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Venezuela and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
