HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) Lourdes Castellanos Jimenez, director of international relations, business, foreign investment and institutional communication of the Azcuba Business Group, reported that 16 foreign investment projects are currently being promoted for the modernization of the sugar mills.
The official explained to Granma newspaper that the new investments include the use of efficient technologies in cultivation, irrigation and drainage, harvesting and transportation to increase yields, as well as rehabilitating the different areas of the raw sugar factory, guaranteeing greater industrial efficiency and operational reliability to increase grain production and the generation of electric power, thus reducing production costs.
A new sugar plant is to be built, which will have a refinery, a 100 megawatt generation block and a 500 HLD ( 2 % glutaraldehyde) alcohol distillery, she said.
Azcuba is currently focused on the diversified manufacture of organic products at the Carlos Baliño plant, as well as on the production of sorbitol and fructoligosaccharide (FOS, sugar substitutes or sweetener) and on modernizing and increasing the scope of the boiler factory.
