Cuban PM attends UN Tourism meeting

VARADERO, Cuba, Apr 30 (ACN) Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban prime minister, is participating today at the 69th meeting of the Regional Commission for the Americas of UN Tourism, a United Nations agency in charge of promoting responsible, sustainable and accessible tourism for all.

Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of UN Tourism, Juan Carlos Garcia Granda, Cuban minister of tourism, and other tourism authorities in the region are also attending the meeting at the Melia International Hotel in the Cuban western resort city of Varadero.

Garcia Granda, in his welcoming remarks, expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in the destination to host the event, and pondered on the limitations imposed by the U.S. economic blockade on Cuba.

Systematically integrating tourism into the global agenda as an engine of socioeconomic growth and development, advocating for its inclusion as a priority in national and international policies, and improving tourism competitiveness through the creation and exchange of knowledge are some of the priorities of UN Tourism.
