HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 30 (ACN) Five panels on problems of concern to humanity will be held today in Havana at the 2nd International Congress on the world's imbalances, the urgency of peace and development and the need for a New International Economic Order ("NIEO").
Political leaders, academics and representatives of governments and social movements from 25 countries, gathered in the South Hemicycle of the National Capitol, will discuss on the second and last day of this meeting the issue of raw materials, industry and international trade.
There will also be debates on finance, debt and the international monetary system; science, technology and innovation; climate, energy and natural resources; and governance, multilateralism and international law.
The presentation of the book Cuba and the Group of 77 (G77) will close the event, in which since its opening on Monday, reflections and proposals have been heard on questions such as the current state of the international economic order and how to renew its vision for the 21st century.
The congress was convened by the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba and the Progressive International coalition, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, whose head and member of the Political Bureau, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, attended the opening.
Those attending the event, such as the directors of Progressive International, its general coordinators, Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla and David Adler, along with other personalities, agreed on the urgency of a fairer economic order that respects the rights and needs of the countries of the South.
