MATANZAS, Cuba, Apr 30 (ACN) The Regional Commission for the Americas is very important, it is that meeting that unites the ministers for the development of the sector, said Natalia Bayona, executive director of UN Tourism, on the meeting that will be held today in this western resort city.
The meeting will be held at the Meliá Internacional Hotel in Varadero and will promote dialogue on key issues such as recovery, connectivity, flow, innovation, investments and opportunities.
We will have an agenda with the ministers of 24 countries, we will talk about the strategy and work plan for the region, and we will discuss education, perhaps the main challenge the world faces when talking about tourism, she said.
Fifty percent of young people working in tourism worldwide have only a high school education. We need a Latin America that has a professional technical workforce to guarantee value-added employment, informal entrepreneurship and, above all, sustained growth in the sector, the UN executive argued.
Some commitments will come out of all these priorities and surely the voices of the ministers will be there to prioritize our agenda where education, innovation and investment are those strategic pillars that can help Latin America transform itself through tourism, Bayona concluded.
UN Tourism is the United Nations agency in charge of promoting responsible, sustainable and accessible tourism for all, purposes that will be honored during the 69th meeting of the Regional Commission for the Americas.
