HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 29 (ACN) The 2nd International Congress on the imbalances of the world, the urgencies of peace and development and the need for a New International Economic Order ( NIEO), will be opened today in the South Hemicycle of the National Capitol, in Havana, Cuba.
Organized by the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC by its Spanish acronym) and Progressive International (PI), under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two-day event is dedicated to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration and Program of Action on the Establishment of a New International Economic Order (NIEO), adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on May 1, 1974.
Considering that this event was a milestone in the struggle of the countries of the South for international economic justice and for their development, the Congress should lead to rich debates on today's issues among economists, academics, experts and politicians of the world, and other interested persons.
As a consequence of an unbalanced international economic, political, scientific-technological and military order with hegemonic preponderances, development and world peace are increasingly threatened and affected.
In such a context of global crisis, Havana once again hosts an important conclave with the presence of prestigious academics, political leaders, government officials and representatives of social movements and intellectuals committed to the people; all of them associated with the Progressive International.
