HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 8 (ACN) Cuba is ready to receive at least 200,000 Russian tourists in 2024, said Cristina Leon, tourism counselor of the Cuban Embassy to the Eurasian country.
According to the official, between January and March, the tourist flow of Russians was 66,887 people, a record figure for that period, as in 2023 the island received 32,224 people, Prensa Latina reported.
To increase tourist arrivals, Cuban authorities are negotiating to increase the number of flights from Russia and attract investors and hotel companies from the Slavic country to the country's hotel sector, Leon pointed out.
She recalled that there are currently direct flights from Russia to Cuba to Havana, Varadero and Cayo Coco.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, there were 18 weekly flights from Russia and the authorities plan to expand the number of flights to 20 per week, Leon added.
In 2023, Cuba received 185,000 Russian tourists thanks to the activity of tour operators, mainly Pegas Touristik, which along with Nordwind airline implements flight programs from Moscow to the popular beach resorts of Varadero and Cayo Coco.
