Cuban company carries out exports for agricultural growth

LAS TUNAS, Cuba, Feb 26 (ACN) From April 2023 to date, the Agricultural Enterprise of the eastern province of Las Tunas, under the Agroint brand, carried out 11 international commercial operations with the sale of habanero chili peppers to the Canadian market, an activity that is still far from reaching the volumes expected by the entity.

During the promotion and planting process in several productive centers in the municipalities of Manati, Colombia, Amancio and Las Tunas, Agroint seeks to strengthen the increase of harvests with new state and private producers.

Argel Pupo Rodriguez, director of exports and imports of the company, said exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that at the moment the productions of the Calixto Sarduy Agricultural Production Cooperative of the community of Becerra, in the head municipality and those coming from the horticultural company Wilfredo Peña, in the province of Holguin, are being exported.

The habanero chili bell pepper is a consolidated product, the executive added, so we intend to involve more producers because the amount that reaches the market is not high; we are engaged in recovering the cultivation module La Siguaraya, in Puerto Padre, because it is the site with the best conditions for the planting of this agricultural product.

Agroint intends, at the same time, to obtain foreign investments that guarantee an optimal and adequate processing of the chili peppers in order to guarantee the necessary quality to comply with the market standards; today about 40 % of the productions are rejected for this reason.

The producers themselves ensure the necessary seeds for the sowing of exportable crops, which results in savings and profits to the agricultural system; in addition, the province is working on the certification of new areas with crop potential as a fundamental perspective of growth in production.

The company also has within its offering portfolio and with a high demand, charcoal destined for the European continent; while it remains open to other crops or products from different business and financial sectors of Las Tunas and other provinces, with potential for commercial management.
