Havana, Jan 23 (ACN) Cuban owners of Spain-based travel agencies welcomed new steps by Cuban tourist authorities to encourage trips to the island by Cubans residing abroad during an exchange with Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Garcia and other executives in that European nation.
During the meeting at the Cuban embassy in Madrid, Tourism Marketing director Pilar Alvarez briefed the entrepreneurs about the island’s tourism sector. She said that some 2 million 436 foreign visitors traveled to Cuba in 2023, Pl news agency reported.
Despite the US coercive measures against Cuba, the island expects to keep recovering its tourist sector with the opening of new products and services in different parts of the country, particularly hotels and tourist resorts.
Minister Juan Carlos Garcia invited the Spain-based travel agents to keep up their work and encourage more visits to Cuba. He recalled that the island has potential enough to become a destination for tourist of events as it was revealed last year when several summits and meetings were hosted by Cuba.
The meeting was also attended by Cuban ambassador to Spain Marcelino Medina and by the Cuban Tourist advisor for Spain and Portugal, Niurka Perez.
