HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 10 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel assured that the recent measures approved by the Cuban government seek to right various wrongs and break the siege caused by U.S. blockade.
“No economy works in line with everybody’s needs and wishes, but socialism aims at making it work for the majority,” the head of state wrote on X, in reference to announcements made by authorities of fields such as transportation, finance and prices, and energy and mines, among others, to explain the new regulations to the population, which include price rises for electricity, fuel, liquefied gas and public transport fares.
During the 2nd session of the National Assembly of People's Power held in December, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz presented a number of steps to cope with the country’s complex economic situation in 2024.
Strengthening the role of economic actors, increasing production and exports of goods and services, attracting foreign currency, resizing the foreign exchange market, reviving the sugar industry, improving agricultural yields, and providing more food are some of the results expected from the implementation of these measures.
