LOS PALACIOS, PINAR DEL RIO, Jan 8 (ACN) Pinar del Rio increases aquaculture capacities with the repair of 10 hectares of water mirrors for the production of fry in the La Juventud Basic Business Unit (UEB), in the municipality of Los Palacios.
This will allow a boost in that production and reach the figure of 16 million fingerlings this year, four million more than in the previous calendar, said Guillermo Rodriguez Melgarejo, director of the Pinar del Rio Fishing Enterprise (Pescario), to which that UEB belongs.
Gradually covering the demand of 22 million fry in the province is a premise, hence the productive linkages with the Los Palacios Agroindustrial Grain Company are maintained to take advantage of the flat terraces in rest, an experience already practiced in the western territory and in others, and with results, the director said.
Likewise, with Artemisa Fishing Company, "which guarantees the production of 3 million fingerlings from the larvae of cyprinid species that we provide," he explained.
As part of the aquaculture program, a mini-industry with technology donated by the Articulated Platform for Integral Territorial Development (Padit) was recently opened in the most important fish farming station of the territory, which will make it possible to close the production cycle.
Depending on the productions, we will eventually be able to take them to other territories lacking this infrastructure, noted Rodriguez Melgarejo, who also referred to the elaboration of feed for the fattening of different freshwater species.
