CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Jan 9 (ACN) Unit 3 of the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes thermoelectric power plant, in the central province of Cienfuegos, is in the middle of a light maintenance scheduled for 10 days, with the aim of reaching the nominal power of 158 megawatts.
Yunior Estrada Zambrano, director of the entity's Maintenance UEB, told the Cuban News Agency that the general procedure includes the execution of actions such as the washing of the boiler, the cleaning of the furnace ash pan and the rehabilitation of burners.
He added that they will also repair the generator rings, carry out work on the differential expansion of the turbine bearing and take advantage of the stoppage to intervene in a circulation pump that had previously broken down in that power plant.
After synchronizing Unit 3, he said, they will undertake a 137-day capitalized partial repair in Block 4 (CMC-4), where they will carry out the chemical washing of the boiler and the inspection of the heat exchanger tubes by the induced current method.
Likewise, the manager pointed out, they will change the secondary superheater, the superheater and almost three quarters of the economizer, with the purpose of returning CMC-4 with its 158 megawatts to face the holiday period with the two units on line and all the installed power capacity.
Opened in the 1970's with Japanese technology, both blocks contribute to the stability of the National Electric Power System, which has allowed this group to remain as a National Vanguard for more than four decades.
