HOLGUIN, Cuba, Jan 5 (ACN) A new rail bus has benefited since early this year ten communities of difficult access in the municipality of Banes, in northern Holguin, with the transfer of passengers and cargo, as part of the project for modernization of railways.
This program, led by the Ministry of Transportation, the Union of Railroads and the provincial governments, aims to improve living conditions in these settlements.
Yunior Valentin Laffita, director of the sector in the territory, told the Cuban News Agency that the vehicle, assembled from a Diana bus, fulfills the commitments assumed last year in favor of three thousand inhabitants of several rural neighborhoods, among them Macabi, Lucrecia and Alto de los Angeles.
He also noted that this new means of transport, the second of its kind in the region, will also serve as a connection for the train that departs from Antilla to Santiago de Cuba in the early morning hours.
Wilmer Garcia Ramirez, director of the Provincial Transportation Company, pointed out that this program was strengthened during 2023 with the incorporation of three railbuses, which were adapted to cover necessary stretches in the aforementioned areas.
Currently, Holguin has ten light trains in operation, which reach communities with complex topography.
