SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Dec 10 (ACN) Cuban vice president Salvador Valdés Mesa visited a number of economic programs in the province of Villa Clara linked to agriculture and tobacco—two of the country’s main staples—including a cattle and poultry farm attached to a sugarcane entity.
In meeting with the workers, Valdés Mesa stressed the need to achieve local self-sufficiency based on alternative productions for animal feed and checked the enterprises’ productivity indexes and export potential.
The Cuban VP also toured the Bioproducts and Biopesticides Plant of the city of Santa Clara, run by the company Labiofam and deemed essential to provide organic products for agricultural pest control.
In statements to the press, the official remarked that his visit is intended to establish what remains to be done in such a necessary sector under the present difficult situation facing the country's finances.
