MATANZAS, Cuba, Dec 8 (ACN) On the basis of a National Design System that directs, manages and controls the activity of Industrial Design and Visual Communication, Cuba promotes a greater impact of this activity in the economic and social spheres.
Gisela Herrero, head of the National Design Office (ONDI by its Spanish acronym), explained that having a policy and a legal standard at present is the dream of many generations of designers in the Caribbean nation.
The visual communication designer also said that the policy, which has gone through several stages over time, is characterized by being inclusive and able to coordinate with all the country's development purposes in any of the fields.
Herrero also commented that among the main pillars that distinguish it is the search for a greater involvement of design in the quality of life of the population and in the transformation of reality, as well as the scope of prosperity and sovereignty as a concept.
For her part, Glenda Murillo Aleman, legal director of the Ministry of Industry ( MINDUS), referred to Decree 88 of the Council of Ministers, on Industrial Design and Visual Communication, as a contribution to the strategic development of Cuba, and highlighted the willingness of the government in Cuba to discuss an issue such as design, which is very present in most of the decisions taken at the country's level.
This regulation applies to natural and legal persons, Cuban or foreign, who develop or manage the design activity in the national territory, regardless of their organizational structure, form of management and type of ownership, noted Murillo Aleman.
The legal director of MINDUS emphasized that Decree 88 urges the different sectors of the country to create favorable conditions to extensively promote the use of design and its management; improve the quality and competitiveness of products and services, as well as the employment of design professionals and promote a distinctive national culture.
