Havana, Dec 5 (ACN) The Cuban Central Bank (BBC) announced on Tuesday that Russian National Payment Cards or MIR cards can officially be used as a payment means at the Cuban ATM and POS terminal network.
According to the BBC’s webpage, https://bitly.ws/34AIs the ceremony making the use of MIR cards official was attended by representatives of the Russian National Card Payment System (NSPK), the Cuban bank, Payment Services (RED S.A.) and Fincimex entity.
The Russian cards have been used in local ATMs since December 22 and now they will progressively access the POS terminal system, starting at tourist centers and expanding to the rest of the country later, according to the webpage.
As part of the official ceremony, one of the cards was successfully tried at a local shop in Havana.
