UN General Assembly to analyze draft resolution on blockade on Cuba

 

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 16 (ACN) The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will consider on November 1 and 2 the draft resolution on the need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government against Cuba.

In making the announcement on the social network X, the island's foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, announced that, as has been the case since 1992, the international community will demand Cuba's right to live without the effects of this unilateral, extraterritorial and genocidal policy.

He specified that at current prices, the accumulated damages amount to 159,084 million dollars, and in the last year reached 4,867 million dollars (405 million dollars per month).

Cuban diplomat recalled that the blockade measures as of 2019 escalated to an extreme dimension, more harmful, cruel and inhumane, depriving Cuba of the indispensable income to acquire food, fuel, raw materials and equipment; and causing shortages, difficulties and anxiety to families.

The permanence of Cuba on the arbitrary and spurious list of State sponsors of terrorism aggravates this situation, said Rodriguez Parrilla, adding that the blockade imposed in 1962 is a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of human rights.
The foreign minister stressed when presenting the previous report (in 2022) that the blockade is the main element that defines the U.S. policy towards Cuba.

For the thirtieth time, in 2022, the Cuban resolution for the cessation of the blockade was supported by the UNGA with 185 votes in favor.

However, according to the Cuban government, the United States persists in ignoring that result and has tightened the blockade to unprecedented levels, applying a policy of economic asphyxiation to deliberately seek the collapse of the country.
