Material for the Mayan Train project ready to go to Mexico

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Dec 11 (ACN) Some 20,000 tons (t) of rajon stone for the Tren Maya project are already in the open-air warehouses in zone two in Obourke, in the southern Cuban port of Cienfuegos, ready to be shipped out to Yucatán.

Andrés Díaz Guerrero, head of the operations group at the Central Port Services Company, told the Cuban News Agency that, when operations start, in its first month, they must handle 90,000 tons, a figure that will increase in stages, until achieving a rhythm of 200,000 tons per month, indicated the specialist.

Díaz Guerrero assured that there is experience in the transfer of aggregate in the port entity, because previously they handled sand, especially in zone one of Olimpia Medina, and at the moment they are loading silica skids in the port of Casilda, in Trinidad.

He explained that the rajon stone, destined for Mexico, comes from the Arriete quarry, in the municipality of Palmira, and is transported by railroad to the yard of the Cienfuegos maritime terminal.

Fidel Viña Cepero, operations director of Empresa Constructora de Obras Ingenieras (ECOING 12), informed to Radio Ciudad del Mar that brigades of that entity executed five objects of works to facilitate the transfer of the aggregate to the southern docks.

He said that this commercial movement contributes to the revitalization of the construction materials industry, the main investor in this macro-project.

The Mayan Train project aims to improve the quality of life of the people, increase tourism, knowledge of the Heritage, care for the environment and support sustainable development.

According to the Mexican Government's official website, this railroad proposal covers some 1,500 kilometers and will link the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
