Cuba Prioritizes Investment by Cubans Business People Abroad

Havana, Nov 16 (ACN) Cuba prioritizes foreign investment projects and trade by its nationals abroad, according to information released in a foreign investment forum held at Havana’s International Trade Fair.

For the first time, the fair’s program included the presentation of business opportunities to Cuban entrepreneurs abroad.

A foreign investor is a natural individual or a legal entity with capital and domicile abroad, which are the only requisites request by Cuba to invest here, said Alexis Martinez, vice director of commercial policy with North America at the Cuban Foreign Trade and Investment Ministry.

The Cuban portfolio of investment opportunities includes 104 projects offered by local governments, which can be of the interest of Cuban business people residing abroad, said the official and noted that those investors can also submit their initiatives and proposals, which can be approved if they are in tune with the interests and policies of the country.

Martinez also invited potential investors to also look at state-run companies, a sector with high potential like the non-state sector. “We want Cuban business people abroad to become an important part of foreign investors in Cuba and that the myth that his cannot be done in Cuba is finally dropped”
