Cuba opens new toiletries plant in western region

ARTEMISA, Cuba, Nov 15 (ACN) The Unilever-Suchel S.A. plant opened in the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), in this city, will contribute to the stable supply of the domestic market, in view of the growing demand of the population.

The new entity will produce toilet soap, toothpaste, washing soap, powder and liquid detergent, shampoo and conditioner with new packaging formats in sachets (sealed flexible plastic or plasticized paper containers) and doypacks (bags for liquid or solid products that allow their preservation due to the barrier properties of the laminated materials used in their manufacture).

Ignacio Segares, general manager of Unilever Caribbean and Central America, said at the opening ceremony, that the plant has a 40,000 square meter extension, an installed capacity of 28,000 tons per year, and modern equipment with high technological standards.

Ana Teresa Igarza Martinez, general director of the ZEDM, expressed her gratitude to the builders that made it possible to complete the modern facility, which is committed to environmental protection, since it has a steam generation system that reduces carbon dioxide emissions.

Unilever, an Anglo-Dutch firm, is one of the largest of its kind in the world, is present in more than 190 countries, and since January 2016 established a joint venture with the Cuban Suchel, now the new production plant of personal care and household items, which also aims to meet the demands of the tourism sector.
