Cuban and Mexican sugar technicians meet today

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 10 (ACN) The associations of sugar technicians of Cuba (ATAC) and Mexico (ATAM) will hold today in this city the 6th Meeting of Experts and Specialists of the Sugar Agroindustries to discuss the future of a sugar industry from a business perspective.

The organizers described the input of technicians, specialists, trade unionists and businessmen from both countries as paramount, given the importance of the sugar agroindustry to national development due to its production linkages and export potential.

There will be lectures and presentations of papers by researchers on the most current topics related to the strategic planning of sugar harvests, innovative business models, the circular economy, and agricultural and industrial diversification, among others.

ATAC was established on January 3, 1927 at the Midday Club, in the Royal Bank of Canada building. Only one of its 15 founders was Cuban, one was Portuguese, one was Spanish and 12 were Americans. However, ATAC’s goals changed substantially after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959.
