HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 9 (ACN) The AZCUBA Sugar Group announced in this city that the sugar mill 14 de Julio of the central province of Cienfuegos will mark the beginning on November 30 of the Cuban 2022-2023 sugar harvest, considering that this province earned the best evaluation last year and boasts three of the best six mills of the country despite the lack of material and financial resources, parts and supplies due to the U.S. blockade.
Twenty-three of Cuba’s 56 mills will be engaged in this year’s harvest, fewer than in previous campaigns, but the purpose is to outdo last year’s results in terms of efficiency by concentrating the available material resources in these mills, which are expected to process over six million tons of cane and produce 455,198 tons of sugar.
Meanwhile, the 33 industries that will cease to operate will use their own staff and resources to make repairs and do maintenance with a view to the next harvest, according to AZCUBA.
