HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 5 (ACN) Participants at the International Transport and Logistics Fair 2022 (FITL 2022) learned today firsthand about the business opportunities and infrastructure available at the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM).
Oscar Perez-Oliva Fraga, its Business Director, explained that the enclave, 45 kilometers from Havana, is the first of its kind in Cuba and aims to promote the country's sustainable economic development by attracting foreign investment, technological innovation and industrial concentration.
Less than a decade after its opening, 63 projects have been approved in the ZEDM, of which 39 are in operation with an investment of more than 3.2 billion dollars.
The ZEDM's business director pointed out that the site has a double-track railway system with connection to the whole Cuban territory, which allows the operation of up to 30 % of cargoes by railroad.
He also mentioned the road development, with the construction of more than 353 km of railways and the container terminal, the most modern in the region, located in a deep-water port.
During the second day of the Transport and Logistics Fair, participants showed interest in the benefits of investing in Cuba, a nation that stands out for its highly qualified human capital, its privileged geographic position and a representative market at regional level.
