HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 16 (ACN) With the aim of strengthening bilateral relations, Cuban deputy prime minister and minister of economy and planning, Alejandro Gil Fernandez, received on Wednesday Mr. Serguei Glasiev, minister of integration and macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
On Twitter, the Cuban ministry of economy and planning (MEP by its Spanish acronym) reported that the visit will help to learn about the possibilities of cooperation within the framework of the National Plan for Economic and Social Development (PNDES by its Spanish acronym) and the transformations of the business sector.
Gil Fernandez commented on the complex situation faced by the Cuban economy due to the combination of factors such as the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean island.
He added that this cruel and inhuman policy is the main obstacle for the development and the confrontation of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the country's main source of income, tourism.
Cuban minister highlighted that the country has concluded the PNDES and there is a working system in the government for its implementation; at the same time, work is being done to contain inflation and compensatory measures such as attention to the communities.
Representatives of the Eurasian Economic Union expressed their willingness to help Cuba and work together to strengthen economic and trade relations.
Cuba and the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia) are united by close ties of friendship and cooperation.
