
HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 16 (ACN) With the approval today of 91 new applications for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises ( MSMEs), Cuba has 1,105 economic actors since it began the process in late September last year.
According to the report of the Economic Actors Channel, of the 91 new MSMEs approved by the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP), 88 are private and three are state-owned.
Among the 1,105 total economic actors approved since September, 1,066 MSMEs are private, 21 are state-owned, and there are also 18 Non-Agricultural Cooperatives (NAC) and by their origin, 58% are reconversions of pre-existing businesses and 42% correspond to new ventures.
Meanwhile, of all the MSMEs approved, 66 are part of local development projects, 32 have previously carried out export operations and eight are incubated in the Science and Technology Park of Havana.
The economic activities to be developed by these 91 new MSMEs include construction services; plumbing and air conditioning installations; computer programming activities; repair and maintenance of computers, peripheral equipment and computer accessories; manufacture of household appliances; manufacture of bakery and confectionery products; and towing and roadside assistance services.
In addition, processing and preservation of meat; maintenance and repair of bicycles; processing and preservation of fruits and vegetables; manufacture of articles made of textile materials; manufacture of dairy products; production of aromas, flavors, preparations, formulas and chemical products for the food industry, except those prohibited by law; general cleaning services for buildings; and brewing of beer and malt, among others.
As a relevant fact, it is estimated that in total these economic actors generate 17, 016 new jobs in the economy.
