
Havana, Nov 30 (ACN) Foreign investors operating at the Mariel Special Development Zone, west of Havana, praised the infrastructure, incentives, prospects and support of the Office leading the economic and commercial center.
During a forum in the context of the 2nd Business Forum Cuba 2021, Special Development Zone director Ana Teresa Igarza said that 61 businesses have been approved by the zone, 35 of which are operative with 15 of them of foreign capital, another 15 with mixed capital and the rest 100 percent Cuban including an private agriculture producer.
According to Igarza, the Mariel Zone operates as an integral, logistic and service platform where 21 countries are present and whose labor reaches 21 thousand workers.
The director of Cuba’s Genetic Engineering and Biotech Center, Catalina Alvarez said that her entity has been privileged to have a plant in the zone to produce COVID-19 vaccines for export.
Brascuba cigarettes company co-president Alexandre Carpenter stressed the support of the Special Development Zone office in the setting up of a new cigarette plant in the area.
Other users of the zone also praised its operations like Vi Nguyen Phuong of the Vietnamese company Thai Binh, Dien Nguyen Lam Dien of Suchel TBV. They stressed the efforts by the office in facilitating company arrangements and paperwork and important incentives.
