U.S. blockade continues dividing and punishing Cuban families, Cuban FM says

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 31 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, said today on Twitter that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government on the island continues separating and punishing families.

In his message, the foreign minister highlighted the extraterritorial nature of this Washington policy, which is increasingly affecting the services provided by the Cuban company FINCIMEX and hindering the flow of remittances to the Caribbean nation from different parts of the world.

In June 2020, the U.S. government included FINCIMEX in a List of Restricted Cuban Entities, with which persons under U.S. jurisdiction are prohibited from carrying out transactions.

Then, in September of the same year, American International Services (AIS) was also added to the list, making it impossible to process remittances through both entities, and eliminating the main formal channels for making remittances.

Official figures indicate that from April 2019 to December 2020, the U.S. blockade produced losses to Cuba of 9.157 billion dollars at current prices, 436 million dollars in average monthly damages.

In the last five years, the losses exceeded 17 billion dollars and the accumulated damages in six decades reach 147 billion, and to the value of gold, one trillion 337 billion.
