
HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 29 (ACN) Cuba and Russia evaluated today the progress of bilateral relations and the course of ties in the economic, commercial and financial spheres, on the eve of the celebration of the 38th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Collaboration that is expected to take place in Havana next November.
Cuban Ambassador Julio Garmendia was received by Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, and they both discussed the status and prospects of exchanges between the foreign ministries.
Garmendia thanked the invariable support of Russia in the fight of Cuba against the economic, commercial and financial blockade intensified by the current US administration, according to a press release published on the website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both parties also assessed the prospects for the imminent restart of Russian airline flights to different tourist poles in Cuba and also issues on the international and regional agenda.
Cuba and Russia fulfill a bilateral economic agenda, mainly through the operation of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technical Collaboration.
Russian-Cuban cultural and humanitarian ties are being strengthened and expanded; one of the most prominent examples of these contacts is the restoration of the dome of the National Capitol, in Havana, with the participation of specialists from the European country, for the 500th anniversary of the Cuban capital.
Likewise, in recent years the interest of Russian citizens to know and enjoy the attractions of Cuba has increased, reflected in the more than one hundred thousand tourists who visit the Caribbean island each year.
Moscow and Havana jointly defend compliance with the norms of international law enshrined in the Charter of United Nations, as well as respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.
