HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 15 (ACN) After the beginning of the monetary ordering in Cuba, even when certain products are no longer subsidized by the State, the ration card will remain as a distribution mechanism, Marino Murillo Jorge, head of the Commission for the Implementation of the Guidelines said on Wednesday in Havana.
It will be gradually removed when the economy improves and there is a certain level of supply of certain products that allows them to be gradually withdrawn from that system, since it is an extremely costly mechanism in logistical terms, he said.
Ration card has proven to be a very efficient distribution method for the equitable distribution of products, and in the face of certain shortages or events such as COVID-19, it has been very useful, Murillo Jorge added.
As for the reference package of goods and services, which the population has mistakenly confused with the supply basket, he explained they are not the same, since the basket of goods and services, as its name suggests, is broader and is taken into account in the formation of salaries and pensions.
This will include not only food expenses, but also those related to services such as electricity, transportation, as well as the purchase of clothing and footwear.
We are even proposing a calculation of medicine in case someone gets sick, for small home repairs, but it is important to understand that the one who earns five minimum wages will be in better conditions than the one who earns only one, the official continued.
This basket also has some funds that have not been nominated and are incorporated because it is impossible to theoretically calculate all that a person could consume, Murillo Jorge concluded.
