HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 3 (ACN) Cuba will participate, as President pro tempore, of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in Session 35 of the Plenary Committee of that organization, which will be held virtually next Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
The main goal of this Committee will be to agree, among ECLAC Member States, the election of the next country in the Latin American and Caribbean region that will hold the pro tempore Presidency of the Commission during its 38th Period of Sessions.
Cuba has held the Pro Tempore Presidency of ECLAC since May 2018, when the Commission's 37th Period of Sessions took place.
During these two years, Cuba has represented the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in different international forums and meetings, has chaired the main meetings of the Commission and has promoted concrete actions in pursuit of sustainable development in the region.
Rodrigo Malmierca, Cuba´s Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, will speak tomorrow in the framework of the Plenary Committee to convey the main results and the country's experience as President pro tempore of ECLAC, as well as the vision of the obstacles and challenges that the region will have to face, increased by the effects of the current pandemic on the path towards Sustainable Development and towards more prosperous, just and equitable societies.
