Cuban hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras receives donation from Iran

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 21 (ACN) The Islamic Republic of Iran released on Thursday to the Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical and Surgical Hospital in Havana a high-tech medical equipment, which is very useful for complex surgical procedures.

Rashid Bayat Moktari, ambassador of the brother country to Cuba, handed over the donation consisting of an ultrasonic harmonic scalpel, as well as several tweezers to Dr. Llipsy Fernandez Santiesteban, head of the General Surgery Service of that institution that undertakes between 18 and 20 thousand surgeries annually.
Bayat Moktari said that the delivery of this equipment is on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Caribbean island, characterized by cooperation and common positions in the struggle against imperialism.
The Iranian diplomat explained that it was very difficult to get this equipment to Cuba because of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against the island more than half a century ago.
This harmonic ultrasonic scalpel is designed to make incisions and hemostasis simultaneously, as well as to use mechanical energy for cutting and coagulating the tissue, in order to control bleeding and minimize injury.
Cuba and the Islamic Republic of Iran maintain close and positive cooperation in the multilateral field and work to safeguard world peace and the fostering of common development.
