Renowned Cuban actor Alden Knight passed away in Havana at 89

HAVANA, Cuba, February 10 (ACN) Renowned actor Alden Knight, one of the most distinguished figures in Cuban culture, passed away today in Havana at 89, according to sources from the National Council of Performing Arts (CNAE) and the Caricatos Agency.

The official CNAE website, Cubaescena, notes that Alden was not only an actor; his work as a reciter, presenter, teacher, and radio broadcaster made him one of the greatest defenders of the nation and its identity.

A frequent collaborator of Asenneh Rodriguez (1934-2013), he participated in works of diverse genres, including films such as El otro Francisco(1975) and his role as Mephistopheles in the play of the same name performed by the Havana Musical Theater.

A multifaceted artist, he recorded an album of poems and calypsos, primarily championing the work of the National Poet, Nicolás Guillén (1902-1989).

He was the founder of the program "Hablando de Cuba" (Speaking of Cuba) on Radio Taino, which aired on November 3, 1985, the very day of the station's first broadcast; and together with Obelia Blanco, he established a distinctive identity for over three decades.

This endearing human being, entirely dedicated to art within the Revolution, at the time of his death held the Alejo Carpentier Medal, the Nicolas Guillen Recognition, the Shield of the City of Sancti Spiritus, the Mirror of Patience of Camagüey, the Replica of Maximo Gomez's Machete, the National Television Award, the ICAIC Seal 65, and the Distinction for 25 Years of Caricatos.
