HAVANA, Cuba, Havana, Dec. 5 (ACN) Officials from the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema (FINCL) and the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC by its Spanish acronym) honored Cristian Calonico Lucio, director of Churubusco Studios, on Thursday for the 80th anniversary of the founding of this pioneering institution of Mexican cinema.
FINCL President Tania Delgado Fernandez acknowledged during the opening ceremony held at the Charles Chaplin Cinema that the awarding of the Coral of Honor celebrates one of the essential institutions in the history of Mexican cinema, which is also part of the history of Latin American cinema.
This recognition coincides with Mexico's selection as the Focus Country for the 46th edition of the December festival, highlighting its intrinsically multinational, multicultural, Latin American, Caribbean, and universal character, the official added.
For his part, Calonico Lucio expressed his gratitude for the award and announced that during his stay on the island he will establish several agreements, including one with the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and another with the International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV).
He stated that the agreement with the film school will focus on the annual digitization of 52 films from its archive, among other joint initiatives. A total of seven representative feature films produced by Estudios Churubusco throughout its history will be available for Cuban film enthusiasts to enjoy during the Festival: "Mecánica nacional," "El castillo de la pureza," "Cadena perpetua," "Arráncame la vida," "Solo con tu pareja," "Sueño en otro idioma," and "Nudo mixteco."
