“Connections” exhibition highlights the work of Boston printmakers

HAVANA, Cuba, November 25 (ACN) The Casa de las Americas cultural center is hosting the opening of "Connections," a collateral exhibition of the 1rst National Expanded Printmaking Competition, celebrating the richness of printmaking through a carefully curated selection of works from the International Boston Printmakers Association (IBP).

Silvia Llanes Torres, director of the Visual Arts Department at Casa de las Americas and curator of the exhibition—which includes relief printing, linocuts, lithographs, intaglio prints, photopolymer etching, color woodcuts, and other techniques—explained that this artistic project is the result of a fruitful cultural exchange between the institution and the printmaking section of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association, thus strengthening the creative ties between the two.

Llanes Torres also noted that the genesis of this exhibition dates back to 2019, when renowned Cuban printmaker Janette Brossard selected pieces by more than thirty North American artists belonging to the IBP.

And now, among the 18 artists invited to "Connections" are Catherine Kernan, Karen Kunc, Peter Scott, Carolyn Muskat, Rosalyn Richards, and Ky Ober.

The exhibition offers the public the opportunity to appreciate the remarkable variety of techniques, thematic diversity, and expressive originality that characterize the work of Boston printmakers; it also allows visitors to explore figuration, abstraction, allusions to historical prints, and a bold use of mixed techniques and graphic media, demonstrating the breadth and vitality of this artistic discipline, the specialist noted.

She emphasized, finally, that the exhibited works were donated to Casa de las Américas and now form part of the prestigious "Arte de Nuestra America Haydee Santamaria" collection, consolidating the role of this leading center as a hub for the appreciation of contemporary graphic art.

IBP, established in 1947, is a professional collective of printmaking artists. Their work focuses on promoting the progress of this artistic discipline through the organization of workshops, competitions and art exhibitions, thus facilitating the interaction and growth of its members.
