Cuba denounces US aggression against its film industry

 HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 12 (ACN) Cuba denounced at the Italian International Audiovisual Market (MIA), held in Rome, a new US aggression against the island’s film industry.

“We are taking advantage of our participation in this important world cinema fair to expose and condemn the scam orchestrated from the city of Miami by a fake Cuban Film Commission”, Alexis Triana, president of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC), said in statements to the press.

“With total impunity, the said entity operates in that North American city, using fake logos of that organization and of the Cuban Audiovisual Association to try to usurp the name of a commission, actually based in Cuba, to deceive potential clients,” he stressed. “With the aim of building an image of authenticity, these criminals use a website with an ‘.org’ address to appear as an official entity while also claiming to have its unreal headquarters in Havana (…) and try to sign business deals related to film projects through false offers of tax breaks of up to 40% and completely unviable filming permits as bait. These are illegal actions, the evidence of which can easily be checked online”.

The real Film Commission, based in Cuba, was established by Agreement 8613 of the Council of Ministers on June 14, 2019, chaired by the Minister of Culture, whereas Agreement 9971 of 2024 ratified its status as a government agency for the development of film and audiovisual production.
