HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 29 (ACN) Celebrated singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez was the central figure of the culminating episode of the documentary series "Ruta ADN Cuba" (DNA Route Cuba), whose premiere took place this Thursday at the capital's Charles Chaplin Cinema, as part of the extensive program of the 9th Summer Film Festival.
The production, which amalgamates a scientific and social focus, is directed by Alejandro Gil and is based on research developed by Dr. Beatriz Marcheco, who heads the National Center of Medical Genetics.
Comprised of six episodes, the series unveils an innovative study on Cuban genetic heritage, delving into the lineage of prominent personalities from the national public sphere.
Among the figures explored in the various episodes—six in total—are actor Osvaldo Doimeadiós, legendary volleyball player Mireya Luis, researcher Zuleica Romay, visual artist Roberto Diago, and anthropologist Nelson Aboy.
During the presentation, Gil expressed his gratitude to Dr. Marcheco, who, in addition to her investigative work, hosted the series, highlighting her communication skills and the profound connection she established with the interviewees; he also congratulated the production team and the various entities linked to the project.
The event served as the perfect setting for the Cuban Institute of Cinematic Art and Industry (Icaic) to highlight the dedication and talent of the diverse professionals involved in the conception and materialization of this television production.
For his part, Silvio, the notable poet and founder of the Nueva Trova movement, stated: "I only hope this work serves a purpose."
And it not only serves a purpose, but it offers a unique perspective on the genetic composition and ancestry of the author of "Unicornio Azul" and "La Era"; it also underscores the importance of self-knowledge and the cultural diversity that forges individual, family, and national identity in a general sense.
With the participation of such significant figures in the scientific, social, and cultural landscape, like Silvio Rodríguez, "Ruta ADN Cuba" promises to stimulate a profound reflection on the history and heritage that runs through the veins of all Cubans.
