HAVANA, Cuba, August 12 (ACN) Agencia Cubana de Rap (ACRap) announced the 18th International Symposium on Cuban Hip Hop, to be held in this city on August 20 to 24.
In statements to the press, Rubén Marin Maning, musician and director of ACRap, said that the event will be dedicated to the recently deceased urban culture pioneer Rodolfo Rensoli, who founded Grupo Uno, a band that laid the foundations of national rap music, and created the First Cuban Rap Festival (1995), designed to give a voice to a generation eager to express themselves.
The Symposium program features lectures, workshops, presentation of papers, DJ sessions, tributes, live concerts, meetings of graffiti and visual artists, body painting, murals, and much more.
Among the topics for discussion are the importance of Hip Hop as an epistemology of the Global South, rap beyond the lyrics, and why the genre is more than just a stage, and there will be a workshop on the Music Industry.
According to Mr. Marin, the Symposium will host more than 30 guest projects and a delegation from Colombia made up of a dozen artists who boast successful careers in and outside their country.
