Cuban easternmost province to host Cuban Historian's Day



GUANTANAMO, Cuba, Jun 30 (ACN) Guantanamo will host the national event for Cuban Historian's Day on July 1st, which recognizes the fulfillment of proposed tasks, achievements in internal affairs, and scientific and communicative work.

MSc Vivian Diaz Bardaji, provincial president of the provincial branch of the Cuban Historians Association (UNHIC by its Spanish acronym), explained that the date is part of a memorable period that runs from June 17, the birthday of Generalissimo Maximo Gomez Baez, to July 31, the date of the death of Eusebio Leal Spengler, honorary president of UNHIC.

She explained that the event is part of the commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the War of Independence and the falll in combat of Jose MartI, as well as the 72nd anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Barracks, in Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo, respectively.

Diaz Bardaji noted that different activities have been carried out, including the presentation of recognitions for the work of history researchers and professors, museologists, archivists, librarians, and other specialists related to the historical sciences.

The most outstanding grassroots sections of the province were also honored, as well as historians, associates, and academic institutions, educational and cultural centers that carry out significant work in the research, diffusion, and promotion of history, she emphasized.

Cuban Historian's Day is commemorated in memory of Dr. Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, a distinguished historian and promoter of national congresses in that field, who was recognized as Historian of Havana on July 1, 1935.
