HAVANA, Cuba, June 25 (ACN) The 20th Ernest Hemingway International Colloquium open its doors today in this city with the laying of a wreath at the bust of Ernest Hemingway in the town of Cojímar and a gathering at the local restaurant "Las Terrazas”.
The main goal of the Colloquium is to promote the life and work of the American writer and journalist through meetings among, and the presentation of research works made by, scholars, academics, university professors, and Cuban and foreign writers.
The event features 19 papers―eight of them by participants from Japan, Argentina, Canada, and the United States―as well as lectures, meetings, book presentations, tours, and visits to Hemingway’s usual hangouts in Havana.
Named after the winner of the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954, the conference will commemorate the 90th anniversary of the first publication of the novel Green Hills of Africa (1935), the 85th anniversary of For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940), and the 65th anniversary of the conclusion of A Moveable Feast (1960) and of the meeting between Fidel and Hemingway in Havana on May 15, 1960.
