HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 24 (ACN) Cuban singer Zulema Iglesias will represent Cuba at the Intervision 2025 International Music Competition, scheduled for next September at Moscow's Live Arena.
Representatives from more than 20 countries will also participate, representing groups such as the BRICS and the Commonwealth of Independent States, Latin America, Asia, and Africa.
As she told Sputnik Mundo, this is her first time traveling to that nation, and she is very proud to be the Cuban selected to perform one of her songs that best symbolizes the roots and Cubanness of her homeland.
Iglesias is currently working on the arrangements and recording of the song chosen from the bolero "Poco a poco" and the rumba "Guaguanco con jazz," along with producer Rodrigo Sosa, the prominent Argentine quenist who recently won the Cubadisco Grand Prize for his album "Olokun."
Indira Fajardo, president of the Cuban Institute of Music, stated that Iglesias' participation in the Intervision competition represents an opportunity to showcase Cuban artists and also honor national music.
Despite the US blockade and economic restrictions, we can show our musical product in this way; it would be very useful to strengthen exchanges, bridges, and synergies with Russian conservatories, which have long been benchmarks for the education of Cuban students, she added.
Intervision 2025, officially announced on June 12 (Russian National Day), already has among the confirmed nations Azerbaijan, Belarus, Venezuela, Vietnam, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Qatar, China, Colombia, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, the United States, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and South Africa.
