HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 7 (ACN) At the age of 80, renowned Cuban writer Luis Cabrera Delgado, one of the most relevant names in children's and young people's literature in Cuba, as well as in adult narrative, essays and theater, died in the central city of Santa Clara, the Cuban Book Institute reported.
Born in Jarahueca, Yaguajay, in 1945, Cabrera Delgado left a literary legacy that includes more than 50 books published by prestigious national and international publishers.
His work, translated into languages such as Russian, German, Portuguese and Italian, received numerous awards, among them the Ismaelillo, Abril and Foundation of the City of Santa Clara awards, where he was declared Distinguished Guest.
His awards also include the La Rosa Blanca Magistral Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Distinction for National Culture and the Diploma for the Centenary of La Edad de Oro (The Golden Age).
The Ministry of Culture, the Cuban Book Institute and the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC by its Spanish acronym), of which he was an Emeritus Member, expressed their deepest condolences to his family, friends and admirers.
On Saturday he was taken to his native Jarahueca to be buried according to his last wishes.
