HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 6 (ACN) With a program already on the billboards and tickets on sale, the Cuban company Acosta Danza will bring its vibrant dance to the stages of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., U.S.A.
Founded in 2016 by Cuban dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta (Havana, June 2, 1973), the company will perform on May 1, 2 and 3 at the 1,164-seat Eisenhower Theater, a traditional venue of many of the Kennedy Center's theatrical and dance performances.
In the opinion of the specialized critics, “Acosta Danza, one of today’s most promising emerging dance companies, has toured the world with a style of its own, marked by the fusion of classical, contemporary and Cuban dance, and its debut at the Kennedy will be able to satisfy the most knowledgeable and demanding audiences with five works, each by a different choreographer, that give a different touch to Cuban culture”.
During his 28-year-long career, dancer Carlos Acosta excelled with the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, the Houston Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre, and the Royal Ballet.
Also an actor and writer, Acosta―who was distinguished with the Commander of the Order of the British Empire―has been director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, one of the most outstanding companies in the United Kingdom.
“Carlos Acosta is one of the most celebrated dancers and choreographers whose skills were honed at Alicia Alonso's Ballet Nacional de Cuba before becoming a soloist with the Royal Ballet,” said Alicia Adams, vice president of dance and international programming at the Kennedy Center.
“I was looking forward to bringing his Cuban company Acosta Danza to participate in the Kennedy Center's 2016 Festival of Cuban Arts, but time prevented it. (…) I am thrilled to finally be able to have this exciting company for this season; audiences will be able to experience more of the richness of Cuban culture”.
