CIEGO DE ÁVILA, Cuba, Apr 1 (ACN) The preservation of the Haitian legacy in Cuba, among other topics, was of great interest to the public attending the first day of the 9th Symposium “Music and Youth”, organized in the context of the 22nd Piña Colada Festival.
According to the musicologist Yurien Heredia, general coordinator of the event, “Music and Youth” is focused on contemporary music but also on the legacy of traditions such as Haitian and Caribbean music and their relevance among young people and, for the first time, has included the project Música es Mujer (Music is a woman), which highlights women’s role in this field.
On his end, the journalist and radio producer Erick Méndez, director of the magazine EnClave, stressed that it is important to understand the dynamics of production and consumption of contents for young audiences and to look to platforms such as the social media, especially to promote the work of young artists who would otherwise find it hard to make their music known.
