HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 25 (ACN) The 3rd International Film and Environment Festival of the Caribbean “Isla Verde” will be held on April 6 to 12 in Cuba’s Isle of Youth.
According to its president Jorge Perugorría, this edition will have Spain as Guest of Honor, so the Festival will kick off with the premiere of the documentary Mariposas Negras, winner of the 2025 Goya Award for Best Animated Film.
“Isla Verde” has received more than 100 films from 24 countries, and 38 of them―including 10 full-length and 20 short films―were selected to compete in the different categories of the contest.
Mr. Perugorría remarked that Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico stand out among the participating countries.
Isabel Brilhante Pedrosa, European Union ambassador to Cuba, pointed out that “Isla Verde” coincides with the third Month of Europe in Cuba, to take place from April 9 to May 9, and praised the Festival as an example of the efforts to tackle climate change and promote the creative and cultural industries as a pillar of development.
