HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 5 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez lamented the death of the famed Cuban musician Edesio Alejandro and sent condolences to the artist's family and friends.
"With the death of Edesio Alejandro, pioneer of fusion, Cuban music loses a very original creator whose work has already immortalized his name in theater, cinema, radio, television, and the affective memory of the people of Cuba”, he wrote.
The celebrated Cuban composer and music and audiovisual producer Edesio Alejandro Rodríguez Salva, winner of the 2020 National Music Award, died Wednesday in Spain at the age of 66 after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer.
His prolific work, which mixed his country’s traditional rhythms with contemporary and universal music, boasts soundtracks for several emblematic Cuban films, as well as for 13 TV series and more than 40 plays, in addition to a membership of the Hollywood Film Academy and of the Latin Grammy and Grammy academies.
His ability to transcend genres and his contribution to Cuba's sound heritage consolidated him as an essential figure of the island’s artistic scene.
